Secure Kit for iOS

Why we don't love iOS

Apple's operating system policy is pretty tough. Steve Jobs didn't like it when users interfered with the operating system. On iOS devices, it is allowed to do only what is written in the libraries. This makes programming on iOS much more difficult.

We always stand for anonymity on the Internet, and we want to convey the idea that the use of iOS devices interferes with your anonymity on the Internet.

Limited use of code on iOS

We have the Kill Switch feature on Windows, macOS, Linux. It is implemented quite simply - we block everything except the VPN connection. This is a guarantee that data will not leak into the network bypassing VPN connections, including DNS queries.

Kill Switch cannot be implemented on iOS devices, since any actions with the network are prohibited. On the one hand, it helps in the fight against viruses and Trojans on iOS. No application can access network settings. But on the other hand, it destroys your anonymity. We cannot guarantee that the packages will not go around the VPN network, as well as during the connection, the update of the Wi-Fi network.

VPNonDemand is designed to keep VPN connection always active. But when testing this feature, we have experienced frequent chaotic VPN disconnections.

Recently, Apple has launched an active campaign to advertise the privacy of its iOS devices. But we know that this is not the case. iOS devices are not anonymous.

VPN apps can only be published by companies

Apple has banned individuals from posting VPN apps in the App Store. Only registered companies can host applications.

App Store only allows organizations to publish VPN apps

Official registration of a company is an opportunity to track in whose interests the VPN service is running, and who is its owner. This approach immediately deprives you of anonymity, there are levers of pressure and the ability to send claims to the company.

Thus, Apple (or someone else) now controls the ability to connect to VPN in iOS apps. And also allows publishing VPN applications only to "trusted" companies.

Can't install the app outside the App Store

This limitation helps fight viruses and Trojans, but it completely prevents you from being anonymous. If you download an app from the App Store, a record is created in your Apple account. Apple can check lists of users who have installed a particular VPN application.

If the installation takes place outside the App Store, then these steps cannot be tracked.

OpenVPN Licensing Rights

Apple prohibits the creation of applications based on the OpenVPN library due to a licensing agreement. You must obtain written permission from OpenVPN Inc to use the OpenVPN library. Such permissions were issued to some VPN services, which we wrote about in the article Why is recommended to choose one of the Top 5 VPN services. Read this article if online anonymity is important to you. You will understand why they have already made a choice for you, and everyone should buy VPN only from 5-10 "well-known" companies.

To obtain a permit, it is necessary to collect many documents, including the registration of a company. We have already written that this condition deprives our clients of anonymity.

How to be anonymous on iOS

Unfortunately, this is not possible on iOS.

We do not recommend using iOS devices for anonymity.

Use Secure Kit on Windows, macOS, Linux for anonymity.

If you need to use applications on a smartphone, then use an Android device. Google has less control over the development of applications, and you can install them bypassing the Google Play store.

If you are forced to use an iOS device, then install OpenVPN connection on iOS via the OpenVPN Connect app. The stability of the connection through this application is quite high, but there is a possibility that unprotected data can go to the network bypassing the VPN connection.
