Setting up VPN on routers

The AmneziaWG VPN protocol is characterized by high connection speed and helps to bypass blocking by the Internet provider. To configure on routers, select the appropriate firmware for your router:

AmneziaWG on OpenWRT since version 23.05.0

I don't understand anything about routers. Where to start?

First, find out what firmware is installed on your router. To do this, go to the router settings at 192.168.1.1 (there may be a different address) and check your router model, revision number, firmware version. Usually the connection address is indicated on a label stuck on the router. The label may also indicate the router model and revision number (usually Rev. A or Rev. B).

I found out the firmware version, but it doesn't work

Standard stock firmware of routers does not always have the ability to connect modern VPN protocols. Some outdated router models can be updated to modern alternative firmware. You must strictly follow the instructions to update the firmware, otherwise you may break the router.

How to check if the firmware can be updated

List of supported routers for OpenWRT - in the Model field, enter the model of your router. On some routers, it is important to check the revision number. There is support for older routers.

List of supported routers for Keenetic Ported - there are lists of routers in active development and those no longer supported.

How to update router firmware

To flash the router firmware yourself, knowledge is required. We cannot help you with this, since need to look for firmware instructions for certain router model.

If you do not have knowledge, contact specialists!

It might be easier to buy a modern router with Keenetic firmware.
